Dear Poultry Enthusiast,
We look forward to our 28th season as owners and operators of Rochester Hatchery and together with our
staff, are prepared to take care of all your poultry needs for the upcoming year.
As a result of adding several lines of dual-purpose pure-lines to our previous breeder line up, we were able
to provide a small number of sexed Barred Rocks, Columbian Rocks and Rhode Island Reds last year. This year
we expect to be able to supply more of these chicks, but quantities will be limited, so book early to make sure you
get your preferred dates. In response to requests from some of you, we have also added a “Dual-purpose package”
to this year’s catalogue. If you are interested in purchasing dual-purpose breeds, but don’t mind which breeds you
receive, we are offering packages at a reduced price. Orders will be filled based on what we have available, after
filling the specific breed orders on your hatch day.
As one of the few custodians in the world of Dual-purpose pure-lines, we take our bio-security very
seriously. We have highly restricted access to our breeder farms, as well as one of the top surveillance programs in
the industry; This includes intensive testing of our breeders and hatcheries. In keeping with this bio-security
protocol, we continue to house our heritage breeders at a separate location and hatch them in a separate facility on
Tuesdays. If you wish to brood your heritage breeds with the other chicks, please make sure that you order your
birds for the same week, as they will be booked and shipped on separate days.
We will continue to ship our chicks by mail, air and with some couriers, keeping in mind minimal transit
times. Due to service changes and reductions by Canada Post, we may not be able to serve some locations by
mail this year. We will strive to find alternate shipping methods or pickup locations to alleviate the problem. Having
your facility pre-warmed & ready for the chicks is essential. Be prepared!
Wishing you a successful 2014 growing season
